Baby bedding behemoth Crown Crafts used to hold the license on just about every cartoon character you could think of. Today, however, they’ve paired it down to a more manageable group: Disney Baby (and Toddler), Carter’s Infant (and Toddler), Nautica Kids, Hello Kitty and Zutano. These are all very basic sets (three to five pieces), many made of cotton/poly blends at prices as low as $60 (some are better quality and cost up to $160) and sold in chains like Walmart.
But the flagship of the Crown Craft’s baby bedding lines is NoJo (pictured). Each year they release a dozen or more designs made of 100% cotton and cotton blends in sets of four (four-piece sets now include the comforter, sheet, dust ruffle and blanket—no bumpers).
New to the company are eight-piece sets that include a comforter, two fitted sheets, a dust ruffle, printed pillow (not for use by babies–wait till they’re two years old), diaper stacker, fleece blanket and changing pad color. Price: $125 to $200 (pictured). Nine piece sets add a window valance to the package for $150 to $180.
Overall, the designs are definitely very baby-ish with lots of cotton candy pink and baby blue. Appliqué is okay and designs are heavy on cute bugs, flowers and jungle animals. NoJo also has a sub line called Little Bedding by NoJo (priced around $100) and Little Love by Nojo (priced at $75).
FYI: Crown Crafts recently purchased one of our top recommended baby bedding companies, Carousel Designs (August, 2017). They purchased it to improve their internet presence as Carousel is an direct-to-consumer-only company. No word yet how much this will change either Crown Crafts or Carousel. We’ll keep you posted.
Overall quality with Crown Crafts is basically that you get what you pay for. Higher end items have better appliqué and stitching while low end sets won’t wash and wear as well. Bottom line: stick with the better quality sets from Nojo and avoid the cheap-o character-theme sets (Disney Baby). Rating: C+
