Industry veteran Larry Bivona is best known for starting LaJobi (Bonavita) in the early ’90’s before selling it in 2008. Bivona then launched his own eponymous company in 2013.

Bivona & Co offers cribs under different brands in a variety of price points: Fisher Price (opening price point), Ti Amo (mid-price. sold in Target and Wayfair as well as some indies) and Dolce Babi (specialty stores, most expensive offerings). Bivona also has two exclusive lines: Bel Amore (exclusive to BuyBuyBaby) and Cosi Bella. Here is a look at each:

Opening-price cribs under the Fisher-Price nameplate run $140 to $300 range. These cribs are available online on Amazon, Target and Walmart and in discount retailers. One unique feature on a couple models of these cribs: you can raise/lower the height of the crib by adjusting the crib feet (called Just the Right Height). There are a dozen styles and four finishes in this collection; most cribs convert into a full size bed headboard. Four ready-to-assemble dressers round out the collection.

In the past year, Bivona has expanded the Fisher Price line with more finish options and even a two-tone, low-profile modern crib (the Riley) for $300.

Bivona’s Fisher Price team has also teamed with Jonathan Adler to launch nursery furniture at Buy Buy Baby (BBB). BBB already carries Adler’s nursery accessories and bedding lines. The new cribs feature Adler’s trademark geometric design flourishes and special finishes (weathered grey, for example). Unlike Fisher Price’s other cribs, these cribs are not budget-friendly, with cribs running a whopping $800 and double dressers at $900.

Ti Amo is the mid-priced line ($300 to $500) with smaller scale furniture designed to fit into urban apartments. “Transitional to contemporary” is the style here with all cribs converting into toddler and then full-size beds.

Dolce Babi NaplesDolce Babi is the Bivona brand aimed at specialty stores: cribs run $600 to $800 and dressers $650 to $1000. As you can guess from the pricing, Dolce Babi features fancier styling and finishes than Bivona’s other offerings. Dolce Babi dressers also have dove-tailed drawers with ball-bearing glides and some of the cribs convert to platform beds (which is unique). Unlike the ready-to-assemble furniture in Fisher Price and some pieces of TiAmo, the Dolce Babi dressers come fully assembled.

An example of Dolce Babi is the Naples collection with its dentil moulding and fluting, dressers that have full-extension glides and dust covers on the drawer bottoms. The collection comes in six finishes, including a hand-rubbed grey satin. Crib: $680. Double dresser: $700-$800.

A recent upgrade: all Dolce Babi dressers now feature self-closing drawer glides, which is great news. And the top drawers now include drawer dividers.

Finally, we should mention that Dolce Babi has two sub brands that are sold exclusively to chains: Bel Amore (BuyBuyBaby) and Cosi Bella. Both of these brands are similar to Dolce Babi in styling, quality and price.

FYI: Bivona is now manufacturing the ED by Ellen Degeneres crib line. You’ll find a separate review of this line here.

The Fisher Price and Ti Amo cribs are made in China of New Zealand pine. The Dolce Babi and ED Baby cribs are made in Vietnam; they feature poplar wood. As for dressers, Fisher Price are made in Chine, but upper end brands (Ti Amo, Dolce Baby and ED Baby) are made in Vietnam with poplar wood.

So how’s the quality? Let’s break it down by brand.

Fisher Price cribs generally earn kudos from readers, while a few folks complain of shipping damage (the company’s customer service is good at fixing issues). Overall, good quality for the dollar . . . with the caveat that the pine wood easily scratches/dents with normal use. Assembly is quick.

TiAmo is the new kid on the block and so far, so good. We like the overall fit and finish of the line—and for $300-$500, these cribs are decent values if you want the style upgrade. The Moderna crib is a nice pick if you want that clean, mid-century look without spending a fortune.

As for Dolce Babi, this brand continues to get better, both quality and style-wise. We were happy to see the dressers upgraded to self-closing drawer glides, a serious omission at this price point that held down our previous rating. We were impressed with 2016’s upgraded finishes, which help justify the price points. The only caveat: you may have to wait for delivery, as Dolce Babi’s popularity can cause extended delivery time frames.
