One of our favorite Bugaboo knock-offs is now discontinued, unfortunately. Reader Erin D. writes in with her condolences:
After much reading and comparing we decided on the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Stroller. I have looked high and low for this stroller and finally called Fisher Price today. They told me that they do not actually make the stroller, they license their name to Kuji Dreamer Design and they make the stroller. I called Dreamer Design and they told me that they have discontinued the stroller (Fisher Price reps do not know this).
Dreamer Design said that the stroller they have that is comaprable to the Fisher Price stroller is their Park Avenue Stroller but I read in your book that it is not the best one they offer.
Our thoughts: Well, the Park Avenue is similar to the Infant to Toddler—but it is a tri-wheel model (the Fisher Price licensed stroller had two front wheels). Another major difference: the Park Avenue has inflated tires (like a jogger), which adds weight (see picture at right).
So the search for an affordable Bugaboo killer goes on! Feel free to chime in with your thoughts as to the best Bugaboo knock-off!
I’m not sure it’s a Bugaboo knock off, but we have the KOLCRAFT CONTOURS. I never looked at the Bugaboo since it was so expensive but I really wanted the Fisher Price stroller since it was in my budget AND had the seat the reversed. I found the Fisher Price awhile back but didn’t like how it drove. Then I found the KOLCRAFT CONTOURS stroller with the same feature (though you have to flip the seat not the handle). I love the stroller, it drives great. And is wonderful for tall people (like me and my husband). This is our favorite baby purchase so far.

I have the Kolcraft Contours Options stroller as well (3-wheeler version), and love it for all the reasons Julie said. I get compliments on it everywhere we go. And unlike Julie, I’m quite short, and it works great for me from that standpoint as well. It also comes in a tandem model, which lets you have both seats face mom or straight ahead. If we have a second child, I would not hesitate to get that one.

Unfortunately the bugaboo strollers are extremely expensive and hard to find similar models. The only one I’ve been able to find is the Kolcraft Contours as well. I have the four wheeler version and absolutely love it, though sometimes I do wish that I had gotten the three wheel jogger instead so I could take my daughter with me on a run. Unlike Julie and Deb, I’m of average height and it works great for me too, so it must be one size fits all!

Any options for a city mom with no car will be taking metro for a single stroller?

hi…i am looking at the kolcraft contours models…which do you think is better? the 3 or 4 wheeler??? i have a combi right now and i love love love the ease of getting it in and out of the car and how compact it folds – like an unbrella stroller with all the features of a regular stroller but for some reason the front wheels keep getting stuck – on smooth surfaces…at the mall, on hard wood…and it’s so annoying. anyway i want to be happy with the next stroller i get and it always seems like something better comes out a month later!!! anyway, just wondering between the 3 and 4 wheelers??? THANKS!

Are you selling the fisher price dreamer? If so, what color and how much do you want for it?

This is very unfortunate. I have the the Fisher Price Infant to Toddler stroller………we must have bought it just in time! We love it…..it was a great buy!

i have the dreamer designs park avenue and it is the best stroller. it’s not cheap, so beware, but it very sturdy, and the front wheel locks for jogging or can be released to swivel in tight places like when shopping. the reverseable seat is the coolest thing, so you can see your baby when they are littler and want to be looking at you. it is fairly heavy but i have pushed this on a pitted gravel road up and down hills on a two mile hike and i don’t think many strollers could do that. my husband loves it too, and we get so many complements and questions about it.

I am a first time mom and have a little girl. I am looking for a parent facing stroller but do not have a small fortune to spend, it seems through all my research that it is a European luxury and not that many affordable options in the US. So if anyone has one they would like to sell that is in decent condition….please call 207-441-1758
