Munire has launched its first collection of furniture for chain stores: Baby Cache is now available online at JcPenney and soon, in Babies R Us (expect it in November).
A first look at the offerings on Penney’s web site reveals a handful of cribs with that trademark Munire style—adult furniture touches like hand-carved columns and bun feet. Cribs are $500; dressers $600 at Penney’s (we’d bet the BRU version will be similar in price).
These are completely new crib styles, although the looks do echo Munire’s other offerings (both in style and construction—the cribs and case pieces made of mahogany, for example).
If you spy it in Babies R Us or order it from Penney’s, let us know your first impressions!
I looked at cribs in Babies R Us this past weekend and really loved the Baby Cache Royale collection they had. It is a more adult style, which we love since we will be converting the crib into a toddler and eventually full-size bed that we hope our daughter will be able to use for many years. The quality is what really struck me though. The drawer slides were flawless and the finish of the wood and sturdiness of the pieces were excellent. I also loved that it comes in the exact pieces we were hoping for (convertible crib, tall dresser, wide dresser, nightstand). We have decided to go with this furniture instead of Pottery Barn Kids because of the considerable cost savings. I look forward to posting and reading other user-reviews once people have had a chance to live with this new line of furniture.

I am giddy as I type this- I went to a upscale furniture store today to get pricing on some Munire pieces I am interested in. Afterwards, I went to BRU to just see what they had to offer. I saw a Baby Cache suite at the entrance to the store and couldn’t believe how sturdy and beautiful it was- not like the BRU furniture I had seen in the past. I wrote down the brand and came home to look it up and here I am! I am excited that this is Munire furniture as well and will probably end up going with it. Thanks Baby Bargains!

Does anyone know if there are any differences in quality or construction between Baby Cache and the Munire label found in higher priced furniture stores? Last week I purchased/ordered a Munire set (higher in price), and I now learn that JC Penny is selling the same thing at a fraction of the cost? I feel cheated. I paid a thousand more dollars for the label only?

Ah ha! After studying the Munire website and the JC Penny website, I’ve discovered that there are important differences between the regular Munire line and Baby Cache. Baby Cache is baby sized. For example, Baby Cache’s chest is 46 inches high (and only 4 drawers), while Munire’s chest is 51 inches high (with five drawers). Baby Cache’s hutch is 40.5 inches high, but Munire’s hutch is 51.25 inches high. So although each Baby Cache piece is a couple hundred dollars less than the regular Munire line, the truth is that you are receiving a smaller piece. This is something to keep in mind if you are planning on using the furniture into the child’s teenage years.

I am a little upset over the claim Baby Cache is making regarding their wood. I have a brother owns and operates a successful wood furniture refinishing business in Los Angeles. When I asked him what he thought about the look and price he started laughing. He said he knows someone in the parent company, Munure?, and that they use the term Mahogony here in the U.S. as a ‘shortened’ version of the what he says is an industry term for Asian Mahogony. I had no clue why he thought this was funny so I asked, and he said that in manufacturing Asian Whitewood is also known as something called Rubberwood here in the U.S. He swears this is true and that U.S. consumers just don’t know any better. Am I being unreasonable in feeling upset over being mislead like this? I like the style, and the price is not too bad. I just think that I will always feel like that whenever I see this stuff in my daughter’s house I would always be be reminded that some companies companies see me as nothing more than a stupid American consumer who doesn’t know anything beyond what is on the menu at McDonald’s. Am I being unreasonable – I am honestly open to feedback on this. I have not committed to a purchase yet.

I loved the baby cache royale collection I saw at babies r us as well. I was just wondering if anyone was able to find it online anywhere?

We just purchased the Baby Cache Royale crib and tall dresser. I cannot comment on the prior emailers claim about whether its Mahogony or some US derivative. I can state the quality and style are wonderful compared to other BRU furniture I compared it with. I even checked out Natart at another store and still prefer the Baby Cache line. It appears very sturdy and the cherry color goes great. I will update you all when actually have my baby and can put him or her in the crib. Please note that the furniture is not available on the website. You must go to the store and pick out your pieces.

I also really like the Baby Cache Royale collection but I can’t find any information on it. Has anyone actually used it yet? Are there other websites that have information on it?

I love the Baby Cache Royale collection and just ordered it from Babies R Us in Torrance, CA. The Baby Cache customer service people were quick to answer the phone and assured me the furniture is made in the same factory as Munire, using the same materials and same quality/safety standards. I feel good about my selection despite having to deal with the clueless Babies R Us salespeople. It took them 2 hours just to find the correct product code numbers and then they double charged my credit card! To save you all the trouble, here are the Babies R Us product code numbers:
Crib: 212396-1
Combo dresser: 232168-1
Nightstand: 291784-1
Convertible kit: 291873-1
Toddler guard rails: 497064-1

I also love the look of the Baby Cache Royal. Can anyone tell me how the finish is holding up – does it scratch easily, is paint flaking with baby teethingchewing on crib?

We have had the Baby Cache Sussez crib from JC Penny since Aril of 2006, we absolutely love it. ALong with the changing table, hutch and 4 drawer chest we got. I have just learned today there is a recall on 5 of their style of cribs, brackets on the mattress spring. Please everyone check your cribs go to the following website for recall info.

Other then this we love our daughters entire set and would still recommend it. She has never tried to climb out of it and it is so sturdy and well made.

My wife and I just had our crib recalled from Munire so best to make sure that the crib meets current safety regs.

This is is respone to the comment about the “crib” recall. To my understanding the crib was not recalled it is the bracket. Munire’s customer service was exeptional with getting me the new brackets. I was told that this was a recall that they decided to go with after they discovered it in an “in house” inspection. This make me very confident in buying Munire products to know that they take to time to inspect their cribs and check to make sure that everyone has the safest crib possible. I plan on buying Munire products for my second child.

I have been looking at the Baby Cache Royale Lifetime crib online and am a little confused. I cannot find any pictures that show it converting to a full size bed supporting a full size mattress…it does do that right? Which pieces make up the head board and foot board?
Also, I love the look of the combo dresser/changing table…I have seen a lot of reviews on babies r us that it is flimsy and does not last? Is that the overall consensus?

I recommend NOT purchasing this brand from Babies R Us. The furniture is lovely, but there are significant customer service issues with both Babies R Us and Baby Cache. My order for the Royale collection was placed mid January and was promised within 3 weeks. It’s now five months later and I’m still missing half the order and was told the toddler rails are not available anymore. That makes the convertible crib useless! My experience has been as follows:
-Crib arrived with a crack in the wood two months after it was promised
-Cracked part replaced with one that was also irregular (not cracked, but unevenly stained). Replacement part was reordered but we have not received it.
-Combo Dresser finally arrived three months after date promised. It was late, but at least it was in nice condition. In response to the comment above, it’s not flimsy. The quality seems very nice.
-The remaining items (nightstand, toddler rails, full bed conversion kit) were promised at the end of May but never arrived and no one bothered to call to tell me about the delay.
-When I called Babies R Us to check on my order, I was told my order was cancelled in error. They will reorder but unfortunately the toddler conversion kit is no longer available and they have no idea when it will be available.
We are thinking of returning everything and buying from a more reliable manufacturer at a different store.

I recommend this brand/crib from Babies R Us. The furniture is beautiful and looks like somthing that will grow with your child (“real” furniture.) We placed our order in store July 4th; it arrived on the 8th! We were shocked with the speedy ship time and delivery was a brreze. The furniture arrived well packaged and the dresser came fully assembled. The crib requires some assembly, but my husband hasn’t aken it out of the box to put it together yet. The dresser looks gret in the nursery so far.

I reccommend this brand/crib from Babies R Us. We ordered the Manhattan crib and dresser/changer combo unit. Does anyone know the box dimensions for the Baby Cache Royale collection? My wife and I ordered the convertible crib, combo and dresser. When I called the local BRU store, the associate (who didn’t seem like she was all there) could only tell me repeatedly “it’s big, very big”. I explained to her that I want to rent a trailer (rather than pay $125 for delivery) but she wasn’t much help. I couldn’t find the box dimensions anywhere on the BRU website either. Anyone know these??

We ordered the Baby Cache Cherry Royal crib and combo dresser from Babies R Us. It arrived within the 7-10 days that they quoted us and was extremely well-packaged – no scratches, dents, or other finish problems. It is gorgeous! The furniture is very heavy and appears to be well-made. I especially like the extra details that give it a more high-end appearance. While putting together the crib, my husband found that we were missing 2 bolts which we recently ordered to finish the project. Customer service was pleasant. The dimensions of the (unboxed) combo dresser are: 60″W X 34.5″H X 20″D. The dresser comes in one piece. The crib pieces come in one very large/tall box – I didn’t keep the box, so I don’t know the dimensions. We rented a pick-up truck and both the crib and the dresser fit in the back – but they are HEAVY.

We have the Heritage collection from Baby Cache and LOVE it!
However, we have had some issues with BRU and their customer service. Our crib was damaged and a piece had to be reordered….twice. What an ordeal that was! And now I am told the conversion kit is no longer available so my “lifetime crib” is just a crib. What a waste…..if I would have known they were going to stop selling/making/carrying this so soon, I would have bought it right away….good grief, my baby is only 3 months old, I wasn’t worried about making it a full-sized bed just yet. Lesson learned……..

I HAVE PURCHASED THE HERITAGE CRIB. IF I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY THE CONVERSION RAILS NIGHTSTAND AND TODDLER RAIL IS NOT DISCONTINUED. I GOT THE SAME RESPONSE FROM BRU WHEN I ASKED THEM ABOUT THESE ITEMS. THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE DISCONTINUED. NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT ANSWER I CONTACTED BABY CACHE MYSELF AND SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE (I HAVE TO SAY THEY ARE ONE OF THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS I HAVE EVER SPOKE WITH) THEY ASSURED ME THAT THE RAILS ARE ON A TEMPORARY FREEZE DUE TO THE POPULAR DEMAND AND THAT THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE AGAIN SOON. I ASSUME THEY ARE SHIPPING BACK ORDERS. IN ALSO SPEAKING TO CUSTOMER SERIVE AT BABY CACHE EVEN IF THE LINE WAS DISCONTINUED IT IS ADVERTISED AS A LIFETIME CRIB THEY STILL HAVE TO ATLEAST SELL THE CONVERSION KIT. BABY ASSURED ME THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE THEM SOON. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS CALL BABY CACHE CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP.

This is a follow-up to a previous review: We had to order bolts for the crib, but we found that we had a much bigger problem. We are now on our third re-order of our crib. The “footrail” or front of the crib did not fit together with the rest of the frame. The holes for the bolts were off-center by about 3 inches and they were uneven – one side was higher than the other – not exactly attractive or safe. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem with the Cherry Royale collection – or are we just REALLY unlucky?
We purchased the crib from Babies R Us and their customer service was very helpful in trying to resolve this issue. We have re-ordered the crib for the third time, so hopefully this time it’ll fit together properly. We are still trying to get the crib because we have all of the other pieces and we don’t want to have to return everything.
The only other comment I have to make is that the stain smell is very strong and you’ll probably need to air it out for a few days/a week before placing it in your baby’s bedroom. I need to check on the conversion rails, because we purchased this crib thinking that it was a “lifetime” crib as well.

I just looked at Baby Dreams Cocoon collection and loved it at a different store. When I went into babys r us today the baby cache heritage collection looked very much like it. Hoping baby bargains had scored it already I went home to check, but no such luck. Baby Cache is cheaper, much as mentioned above that is because some of the pieces are smaller. It looks nice, I just need it to last.

We have also been looking at the Baby Cache Royale Collection at BRU. We went to USA Baby today and found the Baby’s Dream Cocoon 1000 series, which is very similar. The price at USA Baby for the Cocoon is almost exactly the same as the Baby Cache at BRU. We were really impressed by the Cocoon collection, but have not been able to find any ratings/reviews on it. If you or anyone you know has any expreience with the Cocoon line, can you please let me know if it’s worthwhile furniture?

I saw the Baby Cache Downtown collection at Babies R Us a month or two ago. It is very pretty. It looks very similar to the Munire Urban collection in the maple color. In fact, they recently discontinued the Munire Urban in that color. Could it be because they were going to come out with this model in Baby Cache? In any case, I am considering whether to go with this Baby Cache model or with the Munire Urban in espresso (which was my original thought). The pieces are very sturdy compared to others that I have seen in other stores.

Oops sorry! The collection I referred to above as Baby Cache Downtown is actually called Baby Cache Uptown.
