A reader in Austin writes today with
bargain tips on twins:
Dear Denise
and Alan,
I was just reading Baby Bargains again today now that my twin boys are 12 weeks
old. I realized that your book is a little thin on tips for saving money when
raising twins. I have found a couple of bargains out there that I’m not sure
are in your book.
The first is that Oshkosh stores will give a
10% discount on all of their clothing for twins. If you don’t have your twins
with you, a picture is fine to prove yes, you have twins! Also, this discount
is not just for parents, but anyone buying items for your twins, such as
grandparents. My mom figured this out a couple of weeks ago (and actually she
didn’t have a photo with her and they gave her the discout anyway). Plus, she
found another deal, they offer specials on items (not sure if sale items or
not), where you essentially buy one, get one free of equal or lesser value, add
a 10% twin discount and the savings are really
great!
Second, Babies R Us also offers discounts for
twins (and multiples) of 10% when buying any identical larger ticket items (not
just cribs as you mention on p 505). Not all employees know this, so don’t be
shy when inquiring about this discount! Also, it doesn’t have to be the parents
making the purchase, can be grandparents, friends, etc.
Third,
this is not specifically a twins discount, but the clothing store H&M has
reasonably priced infant and children’s clothing. Their sale items are buy one,
get one of lesser or equal value free. So for $5 I purchased two world cup
soccer jersey’s for my babies, and they are holding up quite well in the wash so
far.
One
more suggestion, p. 505 says there is a coupon offered by Playtex for parents of
twins to get $7 off a Diaper Genie. That may be true, but we found the Diaper
Genie is no match for twins: it fills up in two days or less, and is a hassle to
deal with that frequently. We just use a regular garbage can and empty it as
needed (often daily).
Hope these tips are helpful in your
research.
Sincerely,
Stacy W.
