What's the best AirTag dog collar holder? We took a deep dive into the world of AirTag holders to see which ones work best for Fido. We tried a few ourselves on our staff dog (no animals were hurt in the making of this article). Here are the ones we recommend.

Best AirTag Dog Collar Holder: Tips & Advice

Apple says its AirTags are designed to track things, not people. But what about pets?

Officially, Apple isn’t keen on using a AirTag to track a dog . . . but they don’t rule it out completely.

“If people do that, they just have to make sure that their moving pet gets into range of a device in the ‌’Find My‌ network’ so its location can be tracked,” Apple’s Kaiann Drance, VP of worldwide iPhone product marketing, told the website iMore.

That doesn’t seem so hard, as there are a zillion Apple devices in use!

How does it work? If your pet gets lost, you put the AirTag into Lost Mode. Then anyone who finds the pet can tag the AirTag to their iPhone or Android device to be put in touch with you—that’s rather amazing.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take other preventive measures to make sure your pet can be reunited with you in case it’s lost (microchipping, for example).

Another key tip: the AirTag battery will need to be replaced—Apple claims it will last about a year with normal use. So you might want to put a reminder in your calendar once a year to replace the battery.

To use an AirTag with a pet, you’re going to need a rather secure holder. We tried out several holders before deciding these would be best for a dog collar:

This holder does a good job of keeping the tag secure—while looking super cute. This design, with its s-shaped clip, is probably better for smaller dogs.
