Best Humidifier With Light: MADETEC Humidifiers for Bedroom and Baby
What makes a great humidifier for a bedroom?
First, it has to be quiet. That eliminates most humidifiers that work by evaporating water with a fan—they are quite noisy. By contrast, ultrasonic humidifiers are a quieter choice.
Second, we looked for humidifiers that were easy to clean. One tip: if you use distilled water, your humidifier will be easier to clean. That’s because distilled water doesn’t have minerals, which end up creating most of the crud you have to clean! (Of course, the downside is you have to buy distilled water. Tap water is certainly more convenient and cheaper).
Finally, when it comes to a humidifier for a baby or kids bedroom, we looked for models with a night light feature. After testing a dozen models and surveying our parent readers for their favorites, we chose MADETEC’s Humidifier for Bedroom as our favorite humidifier with nightlight. We were impressed with its excellent quality at a price that doesn’t break the bank.
Here’s more:
What We Liked
• Easy to use.
• Very quiet.
• Nightlight with 7 different colors. The light casts a subtle glow—which is perfect as a nightlight in a child or baby’s room. Here’s what the blue light looks in a nursery:
• Remote control lets you change any setting.
• Easy to clean.
• Easy to refill.
• Can add essential oils to defuse.
• Three output modes, including a “cloud mode.” When you remove the diffuser, this cloud mode creates a fog-like cloud of mist. Not sure why someone needs that, but it does look cool!
What Needs Work
• Low profile = can damage wood surfaces. Shorter humidifiers like this have one major drawback: if placed on a wood table top, the mist will most certainly settle on it . . . and perhaps damage the dresser. As a result, most folks have to put a towel under the humidifier.
• Removing the lid could be easier.
• No humidistat. More expensive humidifiers have a built-in humidistat that turns off the unit when the room reaches a certain level of humidity. That’s nice for a baby’s room, where you don’t want to overdo the moisture. In dry climates, however, this may be less of a concern as the humidifier should work continuously anyway! Best For Longer Run Time

Best For Longer Run Time: Homech Cool Mist Humidifier
Many affordable humidifiers have a hidden drawback: they run out of mist before the end of the night, thanks to small capacity tanks.
If you need a humidifier with a longer run time, we’d suggest a model that can hold four liters of water (roughly a gallon). These can run for 12 hours even on a high setting.
We liked Homech’s Cool Mist Humidifier for this reason—it can last up to TWO DAYS (on low) without refilling. And we liked the overall quality and simple design.
Here’s more:
What We Liked
• Easy to clean.
• Easy to fill—and easy to carry, thanks to a built-in handle.
• Quiet (26 decibels . . . that’s quieter than a whisper).
• Wide spout makes it easy to get a hand inside the unit for cleaning.
• 13.3″ height makes it better to use on a dresser (though you may still need a towel if on a wood dresser).
• Auto shut-off.
• Simple dial knob for mist level.
• Low water warning.
What Needs Work
• Occasionally gurgles—which some folks find annoying. We didn’t think it was that big of a deal . . . it isn’t that loud even when that happens.
• Motor runs after you turn it off (to dry the unit). That’s actually a plus, but some folks think it isn’t working properly when that happens. And we can see the point that when you turn off a humidifier, you expect it to be turned off!
• No humidistat. More expensive humidifiers have a built-in humidistat that turns off the unit when the room reaches a certain level of humidity. That’s nice for a baby’s room, where you don’t want to overdo the moisture. Best Humidifiers for Bedroom.

Best Budget-Friendly: Homasy Cool 2.2L Quiet Ultrasonic Bedroom, Easy to Clean Air Humidifier
Yes, some humidifiers can get very pricey, with all sorts of fancy LED displays and features that few folks need.
Good news: you can find a simple humidifier that does its job, is easy to clean . . . and easy on the wallet.
What We Liked
• Easy to fill and carry thanks to integrated handle.
• Quiet.
• Easy to clean (with the caveat below).
• Simple dial control knob.
• 2.2 liter tank lasts for up to 24 hours (on lowest setting).
What Needs Work
• A few nooks and crannies can be hard to clean. While we judged the humidifier easy to clean overall, there are few areas in the base that can be a challenge.
• No humidistat. Best Humidifiers for Bedroom.
Best Simple Controls

Best Simple Controls: Pure Enrichment MistAire Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier
You can’t get any simpler than the controls on this humidifier—it basically has an on/off button and a high/low setting. And that’s it.
We liked this humidifier for its no-nonsense design. You fill it with water, turn it on and it just works. Here’s more:
What We Liked
• Quiet.
• Integrated night light. This is great for bedrooms where you need a night light.
• Includes cleaning brush.
• 1.5 liter tank gives about 12 hours of mist on low (according to our hands-on test) and about half that on the high setting.
• Good quality overall.
What Needs Work
• Small capacity tank doesn’t last through the entire night (when on high setting). So perhaps if you live in a very dry climate, this isn’t the best choice. On the other hand, for more moderate climates, the low setting will work for an entire night.
• Fill port could be larger.
• No carry handle on tank.
• More challenging to clean than others we tested. If you can, we’d recommend using distilled water in this humidifier.
• Top heavy. This models has a somewhat narrow base—which means it can possibly tip over when bumped. As a result, this probably isn’t the best bet in a kid’s bedroom. But if you’re careful, it works well in other bedrooms. Best Humidifiers for Bedroom.
