Easiest to Clean Blanket: LUNA Kids Weighted Blanket

Yes, you can actually machine wash this blanket. While you’d think that would be a standard feature of kids weighted blankets, we are surprised to see many brands can NOT be thrown in the washing machine.

Why? Because should the blanket tear, you could have a washing machine full of glass beads and other polyester fill . . . and that would be a very bad thing.

Softest Kids Weighted Blanket: Roore 5 lb Weighted Blanket for Kids

You’d think weighted blankets designed for kids would all be soft . . . but that’s not always the case, we learned as we tried out various options.

After testing out several blankets with actual kiddos, our testers thought this blanket was the softest: Roore’s 5 lb. Weighted Blanket for Kids.

FYI: The company says this blanket is fine for kids who weight 40 to 60 lbs. However, some kids might hit 40 lbs. before five years of age. Experts we interviewed suggest waiting until a child is 50 lbs. (or five years of age) before using weighted blankets. Roorse also says this blanket should only be used for kids five and up. As always, if you have questions on whether a weighted blanket is appropriate for your child, consult with your pediatrician or family doctor first.

What We Liked

• Affordable.

• Weight is evenly distributed.

• Includes plush duvet cover. We liked the ties on the corners of this blanket that help keep the blanket from shifting. And the cover can be machine washed.

• Super soft with a cute dot pattern.

What Needs Work

• Cover is washable; the blanket is not. This might not be the best blanket if your child still has accidents at night.

• Sizing can be confusing. Roore says its blankets are engineered to be 8% to 12% of your body weight. A few of our testers found it confusing to find the correct size, given all the math.

• Fill can shift. In our testing, we noticed the glass bead filling sometimes shifted. That resulted in the weight not being evenly distributed.

Best 7 Pounds Weighted Blanket: Weighted Idea Kids Weighted Blanket

Seven pound weighted blankets are designed for older kiddos—and after trying out several 7 pound blankets, we thought  Weighted Idea’s Kids Weighted Blanket is a best bet. It scored high in our search for the most comfortable and well made blanket.

What We Liked

• Superior at temperature control. Some weighted blankets we tested can be too hot for sleeping, because their fill traps heat. This blanket was cooler than others.

• 100% cotton. This blanket was soft.

• Good customer service.

• Better quality construction compared to other blankets we tested.

What Needs Work

• Tearing after long-term use. We see some reports from testers that this blanket can develop tears or small holes after longer use. This can cause the fill to leak. Remember to regularly check your kid’s weighted blanket to make sure there are no tears or holes.

• Weight can migrate to edges. In our testing, we noticed the weight can shift to the edges, which unbalances the blanket. This only happened occasionally, however.

• Pricey. Well, all that quality construction comes at a price.

• Duvet cover is extra. 

• Blanket itself can only be spot cleaned. A duvet cover is recommended to help keep it clean.
