Reader Kate E. writes in today with this disturbing story:
We ordered a Bonavita Hudson crib on January 1st 2008 and the baby furniture store people said it would take 12 weeks maximum, but not to worry because that was the latest estimate possible. So regardless of that, the crib ended up taking 18 weeks to be delivered to the store by the Bonavita company. That made us angry and I would put something in your review about the timeliness of Bonavita manufacturing, but I know that it can also be affected by the baby furniture store people.
When we finally got our crib, we put it all together, and it was in ok shape, but the wood was not great. A lot of scratches, burns, etc. But that's natural wood for you I guess. The disgusting, unacceptable thing was that the crib drawer had MOLD, green fuzzy and black real mold growing all over it! It was unbelievable. So we contacted Bonavita and they sent a new crib drawer within 2 weeks directly from Bonavita. This crib drawer also had TONS of MOLD all over it! We were stunned. The pieces were cracked and splintered too. We are currently awaiting our 3rd crib drawer, hoping it will not be moldy. I mean, really? So when you write your 8th edition, please take into account our bad experience with Bonavita's wait time and moldy parts.
That is horrifying & would make me not want to use the crib either

Just another comment about the company that makes the Bonavita cribs (LaJobi). They also make the Babi Italia and Graco cribs. I contacted them about one of their Graco cribs. They told me that the crib needed special railings to convert (this crib is sold at Wal-mart and Target) and to contact the special orders department of the retail store to get them. It’s Wal-mart and Target, they don’t have a special order department. I infomed them of this and asked if they could tell me where to get the rails, they then told me that the crib doesn’t convert and so I don’t need rails. I sent them another e-mail with the info from the websites copied and pasted to them and then they told me that they were wrong and that it did convert and to contact the special orders department of the retailer to get the rails. Thanks for absolutely nothing. I gave up. I’m very happy I wasn’t interested in their $400 crib because I don’t think they could tell me anthing about it.
