We teased you about the mystery double stroller earlier this week—so it's time to lift the curtain.
Bugaboo will debut its first DOUBLE stroller at the Kind + Jugend show in Germany Thursday.
The word is it features multi-function capability a la the Baby Jogger Select (which can be used with one seat or two, etc). This web site has pictures! Note the interesting side-car storage configuration. Here is the official press release.
Apparently, the name for the new stroller is . . . the Donkey? (Is that because you'd be a Jackass to spend $1000+ on it?) Note: that joke is copyrighted, Baby Bargains 2010!
What do you think?
As exactly the kind of “jackass” who will RUN to buy this, I have to admit I was praying that it would be a Bugaboo double. I currently have one child, but am gearing up for a second next year, so this is beyond well timed for us. I have an ’09 Bee that I’ve been dying to upgrade to the ’10 Bee…but couldn’t justify doing so because I know I’ll need a double soon enough.
I think it’s brilliant because it will work perfectly when I have one child still young enough to need the occasional stroller ride (we live in Singapore, but may be moving to London or NYC…regardless, we’re urbanites without a car)if we walk too much for her legs, but by the time #2 is ready to move to the big kid seat, #1 won’t need the stroller anymore, and I get the extra storage I’ve always wanted from Bugaboo.
Without question I’ll be plunking down a credit card for this.
Two questions, which I’m sure will be resolved before it’s time for me to do so…
1-Can the 2nd seat also be a seat instead of the bassinet?
2-Will they be redesigning the travel bag for Donkey? It barely fits the Bee and I can’t imagine how it will fit the Donkey.
I can answer one of the two questions:
The 2nd seat works just like a Cameleon seat – the frame is the base for both a seat and a bassinet, depending on which fabric set you use.
I had a chance to preview this stroller in Amsterdam in April and I was really, really impressed. Some “luxury” items don’t offer features to justify their higher price point, but this stroller delivers on both form and function.

I expect they will make a whole range of accessories for the Donkey, including a travel bag, but I don’t have details on that yet.
I love my Bugaboo Frog, while I do think the strollers are expensive, you get what you pay for and I’ve not been disappointed once in my Frog, if you walk every day like I do it is worth every single penny. I remember reading your review before my son was born in my beloved copy of Baby Bargains and thinking, Yeah!! Right on, who would buy this overpriced stroller. I ended up buying it 2 months after my son was born *hanging head in shame* But to be quite honest we started out with a stroller frame and a Combi lightweight. For the amount of walking we do they were not going to hold up, not to mention they were hard to maneuver on a daily basis. I ended up getting in fights with my strollers. I settled on the Bugaboo Frog because at the time I bought it Bugaboo had the prices lowered about $100 from where they are now and I somehow managed to find a coupon code that gave me an extra 10% off with free shippping. I think I paid around $550 brand new. Not too shabby, considering this is what they sell for used sometimes!!! My husband and I both love it and it is hands down our favorite item of baby gear. With that said if we were having a 2nd child we would consider the Donkey, depending on the price. We would of course have to sell the Frog to do so. I couldn’t justify owning 2 overpriced strollers, or could I?? haha
I love the innovative design of this Bugaboo stroller. I think they could have taken it even one step further and made it so that you could take out the shopping basket and add a platform, making this a sit and stand stroller an instant 3-in-1 design!
It looks heavy and bulky. And the name DONKEY. Yeah, the jackass jokes are going to fly like wildfire on that one. They should have just named it the Sidecar or something. Or if they wanted to keep with the animal names, wouldn’t Percheron do? (a Percheron is a huge draft horse – LOL!)
