Deuter Kid Comfort IIWeb: Deuter.com

Price: $250

Maximum weight: 48.5 lbs.

Comments: Deuter is a German company with a long history in this category—Deuter rucksacks debuted in 1934 and were used on expeditions to the Himalayas in 1953. The company branched out into child carriers in 1991 and now offers four models.

The most popular version is the Kid Comfort II (pictured), which features a contoured hip belt, zipped compartment under the seat, 35-point harness, side entry, large mesh storage pockets, and breathable seat cushions. And they even include a cute little teddy bear (see the little fella in the photo). A sun roof and deluxe rain cover are sold separately.

Over all, parents love the multiple adjustments for parent and child, as well as the storage. Others rave about how comfortable it is. The only complaint: more than one reader told us they hate the Kid Comfort’s numerous zippers. Rating: A-
