FYI: We see that Britax has discontinued the Baby Carrier and no longer lists it on its website. We still see it for sale online, however. Please note that this carrier should include an infant insert for babies 8 to 14 lbs. You should not have to purchase the insert separately.
Web: BritaxUSA.com
Price: $90
Weight Range: 8 to 32 lbs.
Comments: Britax has slowly been adding categories to its product lines over the years. Originally, car seats were their mojo, then strollers. And now they’ve added a front carrier with the exciting name of (drumroll) the Britax Baby Carrier.
The carrier’s key feature: Britax’s CarryLong System, a padded waist belt and shoulder straps that claim to “distribute weight across shoulders, back and hips for maximum extended wear comfort.” The carrier includes a multitude of features: padded leg openings; easy on/off design with one hand buckles and snaps; easy adjust front harness straps; “easy-adjust waist belt” (22″ to 56″); bib; adjustable head support; leg loops sized for small infants. Whew! Clearly, Britax did their homework.
The Baby Carrier used to carry a price tag of $130, but we notice that online prices hover around $90, making it a more reasonably priced option.
Whatever the price, is it worth it? Feedback is mixed. Parents really seem to like the the high weight limit—the Britax Baby Carrier can be used up to 32 lbs., versus the Bjorn Original, which only goes up to between 22 and 26 lbs. The carrier’s light weight (3 lbs.) also comes in for praise. But some parents complain the carrier doesn’t fit well or adjust easily. This negative feedback leads us to lower Britax’s rating a bit.
