Front Carrier Product Review: The Nuna Cudl is the first carrier for the Nuna brand, which is better known for its car seats and strollers.
The Nuna Cudl baby carrier is a straight forward front carrier with four carry options: front facing in with infant insert, front facing in without insert, front facing out and piggyback. Weight limits are 30 lbs. in the forward carry position; 40 lbs. on the back.
The big headline here are the magnetic buckles, which should make it theoretically easier to put on. There is also an ergonomic waist band for parent comfort.
The Cudl comes with an infant insert that allows you to start using the carrier at 7 lbs. up to 20 lbs. and folds away when no longer needed. This is a nice feature–you don’t want to lose the insert if you decide to have another baby. Additional features include a hood, breathable mesh fabric and two detachable organic teething bibs.
The Cudl is expected to runs a whopping $199.95. Hope you have a gold plated wallet for that purchase. That’s near the official price of the Baby Bjorn One—the major difference is the Cudl can work to 40 lbs. as a back carrier while the Bjorn One tops out at 33 lbs. Of course, the One is often discounted to as low as $150 online . . . Nuna products typically don’t see those kind of discounts since their distribution is typically limited online (no Amazon, for example).
Other than the magnetic closures, the Cudl doesn’t have any groundbreaking features (other carriers have integrated infant inserts like the Boba). And at this price, it might be hard to justify the price premium over a Bjorn One. The product was still in prototype phase as we went to press, so no real world feedback yet. Rating: B.
