Infant Car Seat Review: GB Idan
UPDATE 4/2/2018: Good Baby has discontinued this car seat as well as the Maris stroller mentioned below. However, we continue to see both for sale online. We’ll keep the review for those of you may still be interested.
Comments: If this infant car seat looks familiar, that’s because it is—baby gear goliath GoodBaby has remixed the Cybex Aton 2 into a GB-branded infant seat dubbed the Idan (pronounced “edan”). GoodBaby owns Cybex (as well as Evenflo) and also markets gear under its own GB moniker. (Confusing, we know).
The only difference between the GB Idan and the Cybex Aton 2 is the Idan has the linear side impact protection (a plastic part of the side that swings out)—that feature is on the Aton Q.
The GB Idan is sold at Buy Buy Baby for $360, which seems kind of pricey since the Cybex Aton 2 sells for just $300 on Amazon at the moment. The main reason the GB Idan exists is to pair with the equally pricey GB Maris stroller, a $700 stroller also sold at Buy Buy Baby. The Maris can hold the GB Idan without any adapters.
We like the Cybex Aton 2 (see our review here), but we can’t see the point of spending 20% more to get the GB Idan version . . . unless you’ve fallen in love with the Maris stroller.
(Yes, we said in our Cybex Aton review that the Aton has wider stroller compatibility than it appears—because the Aton works with any Maxi Cosi stroller adapter. We’re unsure if that extends to the GB Idan, however. This seat is still new as of this writing, so we’ve seen any real world feedback on that issue).
We’ll give this seat the same grade we gave the Cybex Aton 2. Rating: A- Infant Car Seat Review: GB Idan
