Yes, it's Day 2 of the massive Jardine recall. Some updates:
• Babies R Us tells us they are returning Jardine cribs NOT affected by the recall back to the sales floor.
• Readers wonder if they can trust Jardine cribs that were not part of the recall. Well, we can understand your concern. But we will trust that the company and the CPSC has investigated ALL Jardine cribs and determined just the models recalled have the slat problem. That said, if you can't sleep at night worrying about this, then we can understand if you want to get a different crib.
So what have been your experiences with the recall? What response have you received from Jardine's recall hotline or web site? Babies R Us? Post your experiences here.
I brought this crib for my first child in 2002. With the hopes that it would last for a while. Unfortunately the crib siding broke on the first child (who stayed in it collectively for one month, she didn’t like cribs.). I dealt with it. It lasted through my second child. As it was time for our third child this yr, the iron broke (never thought that would happen, and the stationary would splintered when we were putting it back together in Feb. I hope this recall works out for us. I don’t have the bed any longer as it was taking up space in my house. I do however have the original receipt, and instructions for it still. So I hope this will be sufficient. Everytime my husband and I called the recall line today the number was busy. So I went to babies r us today. The lady confirmed from my receipt that I indeed had one of the recalled cribs. I just hope and pray that my receipt of purchase will be honored and this will not be a complicated situation.

I called Jardine at 800-646-4106. After about 10 attempts, I got through. The person I spoke with was extremely confused. I explained that I have model number DV830W. She told me it was not part of the recall. I told her it appeared on the list on the press release and was even pictured on the front page of my local news as being one of the recall cribs. She read the model number back to me and it was correct. She then asked someone else and realized she was wrong. My cribs are in fact an affected model. Then she asked for the manufactured date. I told her 03-2005. She replied “Up, sorry, not part of the affected cribs’. Then she put me on hold for a long time and when she came back she told me it was affected. uggh! My advice to anyone is to forget the 800 number and fill the form out online jardinecribrecall.com!!!! I wonder how many people are calling and told their cribs are not affected when in fact, they are. I own two of these cribs (twins) and am worried they aren’t going to be able to handle this recall.

I applied online for the vouchers (I was lucky enough to have two recalled cribs). We went to BRU because there is no way I could make my toddler sleep in a pack n play for 2-3 weeks. After speaking to one associate, she called the manager over who had just finished a company-wide teleconference. BRU official policy is that you can purchase a crib today and return with your receipt when the voucher comes in the mail to receive a refund. Each voucher can only be used towards a crib, and the vouchers can not be combined. (Since I had two cribs, but only one child – we were hoping to pool the money.)
My biggest concern is for people who don’t have $200 – $300+ lying around to buy an extra crib. It was an annoyance to pay for it today, but I could afford to do it. I’m sure there are lots of families who can’t. The other problem my husband and I had was that there is nothing non-Jardine that is in a similar price range to the recalled cribs. After the recall, I don’t want anything Jardine in our home. There are Delta $129 Jenny Lind cribs, but then the cribs are $250 and up. Some people who receive the voucher won’t be able to pay the difference.
I ended up with a Carter’s antique white convertible crib, which looks pretty nice. It still annoys me that BRU made $130 on the exchange, even after I receive the voucher refund. We’re so angry we aren’t going to use the other voucher. If it is transferrable, I will find someone less fortunate to give it to, but I am not giving BRU anymore than they’ve already gotten from me. I had two adorable shabby-chic spindle cribs, a blue one for my son and a pink one for the daughter we hope to have someday, and they had nothing remotely comparable to replace them with. The sales staff had no suggestions and were of no help either. I ended up getting the only antique white crib in the store. I really had no choice, since all of our bedding is ivory.

I too have a recalled crib that my mother purchased for the birth of our first child in 2004. I loved the crib and had been currently using it for our daughter.
I have applied for a voucher and decided to go and look at cribs today to see what is now offered at Babies R Us. I was quite disappointed in the selection. As the previous post stated, there is a Jenny Lind crib for $130 with a not-so-convenient drop side. The other cribs start at $250. I would like to purchase a new crib that matches the rest of our furniture and I quite shocked to find those cribs start at $299. My voucher will be for $219. My options are to walk away with a crib that I will not be happy with & pay nothing extra OR to pay at at least $80 more for a new crib.
Babies R Us is going to make out quite well with this crib recall. Potentially 320,000 people are at their mercy and most likely going to be spending a bit more for a crib than the voucher they are given (and I am sure BRU is not out any money for the vouchers). And I agree with the above post, the staff was not very helpful!
Just another note about Jardine products…my son has a table and chair set made by the same company. The leg of the chair just splintered in half while someone (within the weight limit) was sitting on it. It looked sturdy and durable, but it is not. It is still at BRU and I would suggest you pass on that item if you were thinking about buying it. I am not so impressed with the quality of Jardine products.

As the two other posters above, I went to BRU yesterday and was completely disappointed in the selection of white cribs. The Jardine cribs that we have now (that were recalled) are beautiful. There was nothing to compare to them in white. I couldn’t believe it. We were about to convert them to daybeds and this is really just frustrating.

I requested my voucher the first day and am now getting around to looking at new cribs. I was excited at first because I found 2 online I liked only to call the store and be told no store in the nation has either crib and they will not special order. I do not feel BRU is handling this very well and I will continue to contact them and hopefully have a good report later.

I agree with everyone else that there is nothing comparable in the price range at BRU. Does anyone know if they will let you use the voucher to buy online? Also, I spoke with someone through the 1-800 number this morning and it was really quick and she answered the questions I had correctly. Hopefully this means they have now got it together! However, I did not ask about buying online!? Now I have to wait to call again until Monday?!

In response to the post about online cribs, I asked the manager when we were in BRU on Thursday about ordering the Pink DaVinci Jenny Lind crib, since it is the closest match to the pink spindle crib that was recalled. He said that the store could not order “online only” merchandise be he “thought” that if I ordered a crib online, I could bring in the receipt/packing slip for the online crib and get a refund for the amount of the voucher. I was so frustrated with the process, as I stated in my earlier post, I don’t think I’m going to use the second voucher we receive, simply because I don’t want to give BRU any more money. Buying an online crib would cost an extra $36 in shipping, which I am sure BRU will not reimburse us.
I like the antique white Carter’s crib that we replaced the blue spindle crib with, but I am still so frustrated by the extra expense and time involved in this fiasco. As everyone has stated, BRU is making out in this process because all of the replacement choices with the exception on the Delta Jenny Lind crib cost more than the value of the vouchers.
The associate that I spoke to before the store manager told me that she thought the vouchers would be coming with a 10% off coupon for the new cribs that are purchased to offset some of the inconvenience. (Ha ha.)
I really think they should be offering something besides a voucher to purchase another crib.

O.K. I went to BRU again! This time I was told that if you choose an in-store model you do not actually have to purchase and then be reimbursed. If you bring in a particular part from the crib that they ask for, they can then look up your voucher number and give you the new crib. I was also told that you can purchase a crib online and be re-imbursed once you get your voucher. Good luck everyone!

You can call the Jardine 800 number and give them your crib model number and they can tell you the amount that your voucher will be. You are supposed to be getting the highest price your crib sold for plus sales tax. You don’t need a receipt, you will just have to send specific hardware/items from your crib before you actually receive the voucher.

So I called the number to find out how much my voucher would be. Retail value: $249.99. I know I paid a lot more for my cribs than that. Grrr! There is abolutely nothing in that price range at Babies R Us that would be comparable. I am so angry right now because I did not intend to be spending $300+ for new cribs (the only model that matches their bureau set is $400) when my kids were almost 3! I had planned to convert them into beds they would use for years, that was the whole point of spending extra on these convertible cribs.

If they would allow us to order from babiesrus.com, I wouldn’t even be upset right now. The selection at the store is sparse, but online I see several convertible cribs we can afford and that would look as nice as the one we have now (the defective ones).

Also, they have a new process for peopel who own multiple defective models. I had started the process last week when it was announced and today received only one packet for one crib. I called and they told me about the new multiple crib process, which doesn’t help me now. They told me to go ahead and put both crib parts and labels into the one envelope. Why do I know it’s going to get screwed up?

We’ve contacted both Jardine and the Consumer Protection Agency about this process – shipping in hardware and waiting for 2-4 weeks. This is unfair to the people at Jardine and Babies R Us has made a profit from. We should all ask for the process to change and for Babies R Us to accept the hardware at their stores as part of the verification process. Babies R Us and Jardine are ultimately making profit on the old and new cribs being sold. Oh- and Jardine said that my baby could just sleep with me for the month until the voucher arrived…do they really care about baby safety?

Amy, I am outraged about your experience!!!

My BRU told me that if you take the hardware to them, they can verfiy the voucher number with a phone call and give you the new crib. However, as many of you have said there is NOTHING anywhere near as nice in the price-range at the store. We really shouldn’t have to be paying more because they screwed up?! Anyway, I plan on buying on-line because of the dismal selection at BRU. However, now my irritation is that even if the new crib, plus the shipping is under the voucher amount, they will not reimburse you for the shipping portion, only the crib portion! Does anyone know who we should be sending our official complaints about the entire situation to?

I just got off the phone with the Jardine people again and now I have received conflicting information. They said that you were not allowed to buy on-line?! Then since I had conflicting information from them and BRU, she gave me the Jardine customer service number to call. When I called, it is in Asia and they are closed today for a holiday? This is so rediculous!

Okay. . . I ended up with the crib I wanted but the process was WAY too difficult. Read on if you have the time. After calling our nearest BRU again to ask about online ordereing (I was told NOT POSSIBLE-last week) that store will now allow you to purchase online and bring your voucher and packing slip to be reimbersed. That alone felt like a big victory because the only 2 cribs I liked in my price range were online and when I called the store I was told they didn’t carry them! I then went online to order the Divinci Emily crib in Cherry–it was now 40 dollars more expensive!! Last week it was 239 now 279. I called customer service and was told it was on sale and they would not give me that price. I explained that I was ready to buy last week but BRU said I couldn’t be reembersed for online. . . still said no. Then went through the I’ll check with my supervisor. . . no. When I asked to speak to a supervisor none were available, I said I’ll wait and was told one would call me in one to two business days. I told her this was not acceptable and I found it very curious a supervisor was available o say no but not to speak with me. Any way I was never able to speak to a supervisor and still have not been called back. Right after I hung up my husband called, got a supervisor and rectified the price change and ordered the crib! Although I was glad to get it I was furious that I was treated so poorly because I was trying to be nice. It really was not worth the 40 dollars, all the time I spent, but it was the principle not the money–They should not be marking up cribs when they know there will be thousands of people buying them due to their error. Sorry this was soooo ling I hope each of you find a safe crib that you are happy with.

IF YOU ORDER ONLINE THERE IS A $10 OFF CODE GOOD UNTIL TOMORROW IT IS 922822. A lot of the cribs have free shipping with pay later(not sure what that is) but it might help a little.

Thanks for the information Mandy! However, I already ordered. The BRU online specialists told me there were NO DEALS on anything to be had right now. Don’t you love it when the people who are suppossed to be helping you give you incorrect information? What happened to customer service?

This whole thing has me so enraged…so where would they like my child to sleep while I spend MY gas money and my time returning STUPID hardware?? Then again I need to waste MY gas money and my time finding a new crib. Then I need to waste MORE of my time putting the thing together? This sounds no where near fair.. Babies R Us emailed me about the recall so they have record of my purchase.
I wish I knew who to contact about how this whole situation is being handled. It’s so ridiculous it’s ALMOST comical. What a joke.

I called Jardine just the other day and there was no wait time and the woman I spoke with was very nice and helpful. I was just looking online at BRU and can’t really find anything to replace our crib with. I agree with those of you who wrote to say that there is nothing in the price range. We really don’t want to spend extra money on another crib. I guess the only good thing is that we plan on having another child at some point, so it will get used again.
As a side note, we purchased the Jardine changing table that matched our crib, and it was a piece of junk. We ended up returning two of them with faulty pieces and bought a different brand somewhere else.

Has anyone removed the label yet? Arrrggg!! 30 minutes and it is in shards. It’s impossible!!!
Maybe the person who designed the labels should be designing the cribs!!!

OK, now I am really getting pissed. My husband has been trying to remove the mattress support panels and me the labels. An hour later and the twins are up so we have to stop. Crib rails everywhere. This has ruined our staycation!!! Hours of nonsense, frustrating work. They have the proof we bought them–what else do they need? GRRR!!!!!!!

If you want to send a formal complaint about this process, you should contact the better business bureau. I plan to do this about both Babiesrus and Jardine. Maybe if enough people send in complaints, something will be done to solve this situation.
I know that I have had many tears over this situation. I am a first time mother and was thrilled with my matching changing table and crib. Now I find out that the only Jardine crib in cherry at the store is $200 more than my voucher and I cannot get a refund for my changing table. This is the only model that comes in Cherry and I don’t want a Jardine crib after all this. I could buy another brand but BRU doesn’t have any in cherry sitting out so that I could make sure the color matches. I will not order a crib without knowing if the color will match with my changing table. How horrible of both companies for putting parents through this!!

I am so frustrated about this today. My husband finally got the mattress support brackets off and I got portions of the labels off. I have been in a bad mood all day since, it was tedious crappy work. It also may be I am in a bad mood because I am absolutely exhausted from the lack of sleep with my twin 2 year olds ransacking their room all night without the confinement of their cribs. They haven’t napped since last week when I took them down either. I dropped off the envelopes of parts at UPS this morning and the crib company had *better* not give me a problem with the shards of labels I was able to scrape off. I took pictures of everything and sent them, used up a lot of toner in the process.

I just wanted to add that the last two times I called the crib recall hotline, the representatives have been very nice and informative. I had posted my first experience, which was horrible. The woman today it was ok to tear the label. But when I got to it, it was impossible to get the whole thing off, even in shards.

I am actually very interested in ordering a crib online from BRU (since its the only one close the the price and style) of the one that has been recalled…big surprise) and attempting to get reimbursed once I receive the voucher. Has anyone actually been successful with this process yet or is it too soon for anyone to have actually gotten a voucher from Jardine?

Has anyone actually recieved the kit from Jardine with instructions on what to send back? We used the website to send our info on the 25th and haven’t gotten ours yet. How long should this take?

I did get my kit yesterday–actually they sent two. I came through UPS in an envelope. I has a letter, an instruction sheet, and waiver to sign that states you won’t reuse or allow others to reuse the crib. Now we will see how long the voucher takes. I already ordered a crib inline on Monday so hopefully we will get that crib soon.

So after talking to someone at the recall hotline, we know that we’ll get the kit by monday. So we went to the local BRU to find a new crib. We were told that the only cribs that we can use the vouchers on are the ones that are in store. So we’re going to have to shell out an extra $150 to get a new crib. RIDICULOUS!

That’s funny – I was told, by an employee, that we could order on-line and then be credited the amount of the voucher. I e-mailed them today and asked for a written explanation of their policy regarding the use of the “infamous” vouchers. It seems that they have had enough time to put in place some guidelines and I think, at the very least, they owe it to their customers.

I was able to get the label off by moistening it, letting it dry and slowly peeling from the edge. The adhesive part will still be on the wood but you get the layer with all the printing.
While I am glad that BRU will let you purchase a new crib before you have your voucher, then come back with the receipt and voucher for refund—It would be nice if they had more cribs in stock and available in store. We still have to go a week (at least) cribless waiting for delivery.

This is totally insane. Did anyone else get into a stupid arguement with their DH b/c the whole process is so stressful and disruptive? (lol) I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. My husband was actually arguing with me that this recall is a scam or something, he couldn’t break a slat himself, only after slamming it with a hammer! I told him we are doing the RIGHT thing by getting rid of it, who wants to take chances, and yet he really had me doubting myself. We took it down last night in the stifling heat, baby crying, total mess. What a nightmare. Poor Sophia has to sleep in the awful Pack N Play (I hate that thing, smells like plastic) for How Long?! I guess I will order a new crib now online, and get reimbursed by the store, though everyone is having different experience with this?! We both work full time, 11-month old baby, who has time for this? And the companies make more money from this?? We need to FORMALLY OBJECT/COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS TO JARDINE/BRU–THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
(can ya tell i’m just a little stressed out about it?!)

Can Anyone Recommend a NEW BRAND that is safe and relatively the same amount of Money?

Bring on the class action lawsuit!!!
I am yet, one more extremely angry customer. My story is very similar to many others…unreturned phone calls, runaround answers, clueless hotline operators, lack of care for the safety of my child…I could go on and on.
I refuse to pay any more than I did in the first place. It is not my problem that there is no crib in the same cherry wood as the rest of my set that equals in quality and style to what I have. I should not be forced to pick a piece of furniture I don’t like or that doesn’t match just because it’s all that’s available. Give me my money back and I’ll go to a a store that has actual customer service.
I’ve filed a formal complaint with Toys R Us. I’m in the process of contacting Fox News in NY to see if they will do anything with the story. I am also contacting the Attorney General in Connecticut as well as CPSC to report this fiasco. I know is might sound like a bit much…but I refuse to be taken for a fool!!! Probably wouldn’t hurt for others to do the same!!!

So my complaint is NOT with BRU but with Jardine AND the CPSC. I filed my stuff online on June26th. I was told on the 8th my stuff was being sent via UPS and I should have it by the 10th. I called again on the 11th, and they said that there was a problem with UPS and they didnt have tracking number (convienient, huh?) anyways they said I would have it on the 14th, so again when I didnt receive it i called on the 15th, she said it would be expedited and I would get it on the 17th. I called the CPSC and spoke to a woman named Dolly. She was very nice, and she called and talked to a guy named Jake. Dolly told me that it was going to be over-nighted on the 16th, and I would definately have it on the 17th. When I recieved my package I had to sign some kind of waiver, and mail it back out to the attention of Jake, and I was guaranteed to have my voucher by the 24th, because of all the hassle and blah blah blah. Well here it is the 28th, and I have yet to receive anything. I tried calling the woman back 3 times from the CPSC and she hasnt returned my calls. I was also placed a a supposed “call back list” for the supervisor at Jardine…surprise suprise I havent been called back. I contacted Good Morning America, CBS Investigates, and the Better Business Bureau. I have gotten NOWHERE! Shame on Jardine!!! What else is there left to do?????????
