Reader Ali C. writes in today with a story about her Dutailier dresser that didn’t live up to the brand’s reputation for quality:
I am not sure how you collect your product reviews for your book, but the “Baby Bargains” book was a great resource for me when I was getting ready to welcome twins in 2010 so I wanted to pass along an issue that I have with my Dutailier furniture to serve as a watch-out to other parents.
I purchased a Dutailier dresser in 2010, and about 10 months ago (when the dresser was just over 1 year old) the paint on the top started to peel off in huge strips apropos of nothing. I recently contacted Dutailer to notify them of the defect, and they told me that the product was only guaranteed for 1 year and that my only recourse is to buy a replacement part if I wanted, other than that there was nothing they could do to help me. Please see photo attached of the damage.
I am not looking for anything from you, just want to provide my input about this company/product — as this info would have been VERY helpful to me when I was furniture shopping.”
Should have bought local instead of one of the big guys or on the internet. They would have helped you for free.
I’m having problems with missing screws for a Creations Baby crib toddler rail and I called the local store, which told me I had to contact the retailer. Local isn’t always better.
This was very helpful! Thank you and I will make sure to avoid Dutailier in the future.
