What happens when you take a dozen, mostly high-end strollers (including the new Peg Skate) and put them to the ultimate test: getting around New York City?
That’s the gist of a great article in New York magazine. Some quick highlights:
• Similar to our conclusions, the Fisher Price Infant to Toddler stroller won kudos for affordability and ease of use.
• Rear-wheel width is a surprising factor in how well a stroller works in New York. While not a big deal in the suburbs, wide strollers like the Quinny Buzz can "clip parking meters" on crowded sidewalks. (The Quinny is about six inches wider at the rear wheels than a Maclaren Techno).
• Despite all fancy models, the author’s nanny preferred the tried and true (Maclaren)!
What do you think?
I live in Germany and have a Quinny Buzz and a Maclaran Techno. I agree with most of the article. The Buzz is unbeatable on cobblestone. It’s quite easy to push over even the roughest terrain, but its wide wheel base is annoying. I’m always clipping stuff. I’ve had to leave my baby outside a fitting room once and a bathroom once (store employees watched him) because I couldn’t get the Buzz through the doorways. So the Techno is better for smooth/paved surfaces, like a shopping center or a concrete sidewalk.
It wasn’t mentioned in the article, but the Buzz (in Germany at least) comes with adapters that allow the Maxi Cosi Cabrio car seat to be put on the stroller base.
Its really nice!!
Its really nice!!
Personally, I’m a fan of the Baby Jogger City Series…I live in Los Angeles with my husband and 2 yr old, and that stroller is great for maneuvering around crowded sidewalks. The three-wheel design is amazing…kudos to whoever came up with it.
