A
reader complains about Target’s policy of deleting registries 90 days after the
“event date”:
Dear Baby
Bargains:
When I built my registry on Target.com in the
fall of 2005, I indicated my Event Date as July 1, 2006. We were expecting to
travel to China in April or May of 2006 to pick up our daughter, but there were
many, many delays. We still do not have our daughter, but on November 2, 2006 we
were finally matched with her. Once we received the photos and medical info,
(which finally gave us her age, height, and weight), we had to get into gear to
prepare for her. That?s when I noticed that Target had deleted my
registry. I sent an email to their customer service and got a reply the next
day apologizing but telling me that registries are deleted 90 days after the
Event Date, so my registry would have been deleted October 1, 2006.
I emailed
them back explaining why I was looking for my registry four months after the
Event Date and begging them to give me anything they might have on the items
that were still on my registry. I had made many careful selections, based on
your book, and it had taken hours to do. I never dreamed that they would delete
a registry (my wedding registry is still available), so I never printed anything
out for myself (my mistake, I know).
Needless to say, Target never answered my
second email. I can understand that they clean their site out on a regular
basis, but they gave me no warning that they were about to delete my registry
and I didn?t see anything on the site when I signed up to warn me about
the significance of the Event Date. What?s funny is that they still send
me all their spam advertisement emails. They don?t seem to delete any
information when it comes to spam.
